Asian Journal of Organic & Medicinal Chemistry includes communications, full papers (articles), short papers, green chemistry, reviews, and perspectives. Specifically, these include synthesis, synthetic methods and regents, mechanism of reactions, biologically active compounds with their possible mechanism of action, natural products, in vitro and in vivo tests of compounds, computational chemistry, physical-analytical-inorganic chemistry, nanotechnology, drug carriers, proteomics and genomics. Rapid synthesis of new compounds following eco-friendly methods and their functions as medicinally active agents is certainly the central part of chemical and medicinal research in modern times. On the basis of this fact, significant emphasis is placed to rapid publication and disseminates original discoveries in this new journal.

Biography of Bimal K. Banik
Bimal Krishna Banik was awarded Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Chemistry from Itachuna Bejoy Narayan College and Master of Science Degree in Chemistry from Burdwan University, West Bengal, India. He was awarded Ph. D. degree by Jadavpur University based upon his thesis work performed at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) and Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, New Jersey). He is a Fellow (FRSC) and Chartered Chemist (CChem) of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Cambridge, England.
Professor Banik has served as a Tenured Full Professor in Chemistry and First President’s Endowed Professor in Science & Engineering at the University of Texas-Pan American, Edinburg; an Assistant Professor in Molecular Pathology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston; and a Research Assistant Professor in Chemistry & Chemical Biology at Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey since 1994. At present, he is the Vice President of Research & Education Development of Community Health Systems of South Texas, USA.
Dr. Banik is deeply engaged in multiple areas of higher education. His numerous contributions in research, teaching, mentoring, advising and social activities are recognized by students, scientists and professionals globally. He has been teaching undergraduate and graduate students in USA universities for the past many years. His teaching skills are exceptionally strong and these are proved by students’ confidential evaluations and thousands of comments. He has mentored approximately 453 students, 20 postdoctoral fellows, and 7 Ph. D. level research scientists. Dr. Banik has acted as the advisor of two major scientific societies that have 1400 diverse students belong to Arts, Science, Engineering, Business, Pharmacy, Clinical Science and Education. Most importantly, his exceptional mentorship, advising and teaching abilities are reflected in many of his students who have gone on to pursue education at Harvard University, Stanford University, MIT, Baylor College of Medicine, Yale University, Texas A & M University, University of Texas at San Antonio, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, University of Texas at Galveston, State University of New York, University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology, University of Texas-Pan American, Rice University, Northeastern University, Vanderbilt University, University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, and several International Universities. Many of his students are working in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries in the USA and other nations.
The principal areas of Dr. Banik’s research are divided among several disciplines: (a) chemical and biochemical investigations of new β-lactams as anticancer and antibacterial agents; (b) synthesis and studies of mechanism of action of novel polyaromatic compounds as anticancer agents; (c) catalysis with molecular iodine and bismuth salts; (d) microwave-induced and ultrasound-mediated reactions; (e) green chemistry; (f) metal-mediated reactions; (g) natural and non-natural products including terpenoids, alkaloids, heterocycles, carbohydrates, hormones and steroids; and (h) chemoenzymatic reactions. Dr. Banik has demonstrated that some of the β-lactams and polyaromatic compounds possess selective antitumor activity in vitro against many cancer cell lines (ovary, colon, breast, blood, prostate, pancreas and skin) and in animal models. He has also identified new compounds with unique mechanisms of actions for preclinical testing and target identification against different types of cancers.
As the Principal Investigator, he has been awarded $7.25 million in grants from the US National Institutes of Health, US National Cancer Institute, Kleberg Foundation, University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and University of Texas-Pan American. He has acted as the Program Director of numerous USA federal grants as well. Importantly, he has published more than 280 peer-reviewed papers, patents, reviews, perspectives, book chapters, and editorials along with approximately 460 presentation abstracts. The number of citations of his research papers is close to 6000. His research contributions have been published in major journals and books (ACS, Elsevier, Wiley, RSC, Springer, Springer Nature, Bentham, Taylor & Francis, CRC, Raman, MDPI, and Thieme). In addition to journal citations, his research contribution and recognition has resulted in media exposure approximately 200 times. Dr. Banik has served as the Principal Investigator of a collaborative green chemistry symposium between the USA and India. He has presided over 20 research sessions at the American Chemical Society National Meetings and over two dozen conferences at the State and International level, including one at the Nobel Prize celebration in Germany. In the capacity of chair at these conferences, he has introduced more than 300 speakers. He is a reviewer of 93 journals, editorial board member of 26 journals, editor-in-chief of 7 journals, founder of 4 journals, associate editor of 4 journals and guest editor of 10 journals. Dr. Banik has also founded 4 international journals that are receiving significant attention from the scientific community. Based upon his role as the editor-in-chief he has recruited approximately 150 associate editors, regional editors and editorial board members from different countries. He is an examiner of US NSF, US NCI, ACS and International grant applications; reviewer of promotion & tenure of faculty members of national and international universities; examiner of doctoral theses; and panel member of NSF and NCI/NIH grant study sections. Over the years, he has served as the chair or member of more than 100 scientific committees. Notably, he has hosted 3 American Chemical Society Presidents, Nobel Prize Winners, White House Secretary General, Presidents of several multinational companies, Editor-in-Chief of American Chemical Society Journals, Distinguished Scientists and Leaders of the Society.
