Abstract
A new Schiff base complex CuL2 [HL = 5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde] is synthesized and characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal belongs to the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/c, with a = 13.79(2), b = 3.818(6) (10), c = 12.51(2) Å, b = 102.49(2)º, V = 643.5(19) Å3, Z = 2, Dc = 1.934 g/cm3, R(int) = 0.0622. The geometry around copper(II) is a distorted square planar coordination geometry. The units of the complex are linked via the weak intermolecular Cu...O contracts, leading to the formation of one-dimension (1D) chains along the c axis.
