Abstract
Chitosan/hydroxyapatite nanocomposites of varying composition for biomaterial applications have been synthesized by wet chemical method. The Chitosan/hydroxyapatite nanocomposite materials were characterized by XRD, FTIR, 31P NMR and FESEM. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanorod embedded composite was prepared using chitosan as a matrix with different weight percentages (wt %). The results indicated that the size and crystallinity of hydroxyapatite nano particles decreases with increase in chitosan concentration in the composite. SEM confirms the presence of hydroxyapatite nanorod crystals in chitosan (CHS) matrix, chitosan/hydroxyapatite. The nano composites were screened for antimicrobial activity and also for antiinflammatory activity.
