Abstract
A series of a-bromoesters have been synthesized by applying Hell-Volhard-Zelinsky reaction catalyzed by phosphorus instead of usual phosphorus tribromide. An excellent regioselectivity to good yields are achieved at comparatively mild reaction conditions of an operational simplicity.
