A new phenylpropanoid, 3-hydroxy-1-(4,5-dimethoxyphenyl-2-O-b-D-glucopyranoside)-propan-1-one, was isolated from the roots of Nicotiana tabacum. Its structures were determined by means of HRESIMS, extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies and chemical evidence. Compound 1 was tested for its cytotoxicity against five human tumor cell lines and it show modest cytotoxic abilities against PC3 and MCF7 cell with IC50 values of 5.6 and 2.8 μM, respectively.
