In Vitro Antioxidant and Anticancer Activities of the Extract from Paper Mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera L.) Fruit

Abstract
The antioxidant and anticancer activities of ethanolic extract of paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera L.) fruit were investigated in this study. The total phenolic content of the extract was found to be 148.79 ± 0.91 mg gallic acid equivalents g-1 of lyophilized extract. The extract showed reducing power and was a scavenger of DPPH radicals. The extract inhibited the proliferation of human osteosarcoma MG63 cells, which associated with apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. The antioxidant and anticancer activities of the extract showed a dose-dependent increase in the assays. These studies demonstrated that the ethanolic extract of paper mulberry fruit is a potent antioxidant and exerts promising anticancer activity.
