Abstract
The polarographic reduction behaviour of 34 azo compounds has
been investigated in a variety of buffers at different pH values. The
electron-attracting or releasing ability of the substituents is related to
their effect on E1/2 . Groups such as hydroxy, amino, methoxy etc. can
enhance E1/2 compared with unsubstituted ones provide evidence on the
basis of directional dipole moments. The correlation coefficient between
E1/2 and pH has been found to have reasonably accurate value.
