Abstract
A series of dioxouranium(VI) and thorium(IV) complexes were synthesised
with the tetradentate Schiff base ligand (N2O2 donor set) obtained
by the condensation of o-phenylenediamine with salicylaldehyde (H2-Salophen).
The complexes formed are of the type [UO2(H2L)2]X2, where
X = CI-, I-, [UO2H2L(NO3)2].H2O.C2H5OH, [UO2(HL)2].2CH3CO.CH3,
[UO2(HL)CH3COO·H2O], [UO2(H2L)S04], UO2H2L(SCN)2,
[Th(H2L)2(NO3)2](NO3)2 and Th(H2L)2(SCN)4. The complexes contain
6-coordinated UO22+ group with anions inside the coordination sphere and
12-coordinated thorium. Analytical, UV-visible, IR, molar conductance,
molecular weight determination and TGA data are presented in support of
the strucures of the complexes.
