Abstract
The oxidation of oxytetracycline hydrochloride and tetracyclinehydrochloride by chloramine-T (CAT) in aqueous acetic acid solutionleads to the fonnation of the corresponding decarboxylatedproduct. The reaction is first order with respect to the substrate aswell as with respect to H+ ion. The rate is independent of CATconcentration. Thennodynamic parameters have been calculatedand mechanistic steps discussed.
