Abstract
A series of schiff bases derived from 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde
with 2-chloroaniline, 2-ethoxyaniline, 2-methoxyaniline and
2-methylaniline have been synthesized. Their chelating tendencies
towards lanthanide(III) metal ions have been investigated potentiometrically
at 30 ± 0.1 °C in 60% (v/v) dioxane-water medium and
0.1 M (NaCIO4) ionic strength. The lanthanides form 1 : 1 and 1 : 2
complexes with all the schiff bases and the trend in log K values
shows a break at gadolinium.
