Abstract
Several new 3-cyano-4-substituted aryl-6-[2’-hydroxy-4’-(p-trifluromethyl/nitro-phenoxy)-phen-1’-y1]-2-(1H)-pyridone (II) have been prepared by reaction of 1-[2’-hydroxy-4’-(p-trifluoromethyl/nitro phenoxy)-phen-1’-yl]-3-substituted aryl-2-propene-1-ones (I) with ethyl cyanoacetate and ammonium acetate in ethanol. Few of these compounds are characterized by IR and NMR spectra. All these synthesized 3-cyano-2-pyridones have been screened against a few microorganisms for antibacterial activity.
