Abstract
A regioselective monobenzylation of the 7-hydroxyl group of 5,7- dihydroxy flavone (I) under extremely mild basic conditions (anhydrous NaHCO3) and polar solvent (CH3CN) has been developed. The selective debenzylation of 5,7-bis benzyloxy flavone (III) to obtain 7-benzyloxy- 5-hydroxy flavone (II) is also reported.
