Abstract
5-Bromo salicylaldoxime is proposed as a new sensitive, analytical reagent for the separation and extractive spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of nickel. The reagent reacts with nickel(II) to produce greenish coloured complex. The complex can be extracted in ethyl acetate at pH 10.2 at 390 nm. Beer's law is obeyed over the range of 10–90 μg. The molar absorptivity and Sandell sensitivity are 0.428 × 103 L mol–1 cm–1 and 0.7 × 10–5 μg cm–2, respectively. The stoichiometric ratio of the complex was found to be 1 : 2. The method has been successfully applied in the analysis of commercial and synthetic samples.
