Abstract
The irradiation of polymeric materials with Swift Heavy Ions (SHI) results in to the change of their free volume properties that have strong correlation with their macroscopic properties. Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS) provides direct information about the dimension, content and hole size distribution of free volume in polymers. The paper describes PALS technique for the measurement of positron annihilation lifetime spectra using fast coincidence technique. Studies on Swift Heavy Ion induced modification in polymers have been carried out by characterization through PALS.
