Abstract
The kinetics of some substituted trans cinnamic acid by pyridinium bromochromate have been studied in 60 % acetic acid-water (v/v) medium. Increase in acidity incerases the rate of the reaction. Increase in ionic strength has no effect on the reaction rate. Increase in dielectric constant decrease the rate of reaction. The added acrylonitrile has no effect on the reaction rate indicating the absence of free radial mechanism. From the kinetic data the enthalpy and entropy of activaton are calculated and a suitable mechanism has been proposed.
