Abstract
A series of ceric ammonium nitrate promoted 1,5- benzodiazapine derivatives (A-K) were synthesised and characterized by IR, 1H/13C NMR, mass and elemental analysis. The in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities of the compounds were evaluated by paper disc diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the compounds was also determined by agar streak dilution method. Compound E was found to exhibit the most potent in vitro antimicrobial activity with MIC of 1.2, 1.2, 1.3, 1.2, 3.2 and >100 μg mL-1 against B. subtilis, P. vulgaris, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, Candida albicans.
