Abstract
A series of seven Schiff bases were synthesized by reacting 2-formyl-phenoxy acetic acid with aromatic amines. The chemical structures of these compounds were confirmed by means of IR and 1H NMR. The compounds were assayed by the disc diffusion method for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Among the compounds tested, V1, V3, V4 and V6, exhibited good antibacterial activity, almost equal to that of ampicillin used as standard drug.
