Abstract
The interaction of dimethyl sulphoxide-trifluoroacetic anhydride (DMSO-TFAA) with 3-nitro- 4-hydroxycoumarin (1) gives four products, viz. 2-nitroso-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1-benzofuran-2- carboxylic acid (2), 3-(methylthiomethyl]-3-nitro-2H-chromene-2,4(3H)-dione (4), salicylic acid and 4H-[1,3]-dioxolo[4,5-c]chromene-2,4-dione (6).
