Abstract
This paper presents a study of the distribution of selenium and cadmium in Jiu and Olt rivers of Romania, between January and May 2008. The concentration of heavy metals on Jiu river was determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and on the Olt river was determined using AAS. These methods don't require expensivereagents, don't use toxic gases or explosive gases; both of them are very powerful tool for trace (ppm-ppb) and ultratrace (ppb-ppq) elemental analysis. The most important advantage is the precision of these methods.
