Abstract
A simple sensitive spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of cobalt(II) using 4-salicylideneamino-3-mercapto-6- methyl-1,2,4-triazine(4H)-5-one as a chromogenic reagent. Accurate and reproducible results were obtained upto 32 ppm of Co(II). The average value of molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity were computed and are 4.612 × 102 L mol-1 cm-1 and 5.5 × 10-3 μg cm-2, respectively. The composition of the complex was studied by Job’s method of continuous variation and mole ratio method and is found to be of ML2 type. Interference of various cations and anions were also studied.
