Abstract
The use of a carbon paste electrode (CPE) and the modification of its surface by means of a thin film of cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) were developed. The electrochemical characteristic of this thin film of CoHCF was investigated. Thereafter, the deposition of platinum on the CoHCF modified CPE was described. This CoHCF/Pt modified CPE was used as an electrocatalyst for the electrooxidation of methanol in 0.1 M KH2PO4 solution. It has been shown that the presence of CoHCF film improves considerably the catalytic efficiency of deposited platinum microparticles toward the electrooxidation of methanol. The effect of some experimental factors such as platinum loading and concentration of methanol was investigated. Finally, the long term stability of modified electrode was studied.
